What's there to do in Mendoza?
The Mendoza Province, an oasis of natural resources and agricultural prosperity, is witnessing a development boom tantamount to one seen in California’s wine country several decades ago. Indeed, Argentina is producing some of the world’s best wines today, and Mendoza City’s bustling vineyard community has become a magnet for wine lovers across the globe with the dream of owning their own vineyard. However, many potential buyers are also seeking quieter communities in the spacious rural countryside of outlying cities, such as San Rafael, as a preferable alternative to Mendoza City's urbanized feel and much higher population of nearly one million residents.
Nestled in the southern heart of Mendoza along the Argentine Wine Route is San Rafael, a city that arguably boasts the region's most breathtaking scenery. Often described as a place that suits all needs, it is a center of distinction offering sidewalk cafés, tree-lined boulevards, green spaces, vineyards and wineries, museums, a number of resorts and lodges, and one of Argentina's leading universities. At just over 100 years old, and with only about 200,000 residents, it is the province's second largest city. San Rafael enjoys about 330 days of annual sunshine and clear skies. It is a safe city with little to no crime, and is currently experiencing a full upswing of economic, cultural, and demographic expansion.
Algodon Wine Estates is family friendly, and its location makes for a remarkable seasonal or year-round investment property. With the Sierra Pintadas and Andes Mountains as its backdrop, the estate lies in close proximity to some of Argentina’s most exciting tourist attractions including the Rio Atuel, the Rio Diamante, Valle Grande, and one of South America's greatest ski resorts, Las Leñas. Exciting local activities include exploring Argentina’s extraordinary wine route, world-class skiing, boating, horseback riding, mountain climbing and hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, four-wheeling, mineral baths, recreational fishing and a host of other adventures for thrill seekers and explorers.

In fact, over 75% of lot buyers at Algodon Wine Estates are from the U.S. Many foreign buyers are attracted to the southern hemisphere’s opposite seasons, as well as the region’s breathtaking natural surroundings, and the culturally rich environment of wine country. It’s estimated that around 50% of Mendoza’s vineyard owners maintain primary residences outside of Argentina.
What can I grow on my property?
Many lots offer preexisting vineyards, olive groves, and fruit or nut orchards, or you can custom design your dream landscape with any of these features. Newly planted and preexisting vineyards are sourced from the same vine stocks of our Mendoza winery, and can be managed year-round by our expert agro engineers and winemakers to create custom wines just for you. Some property owners may choose to have minimal to no crops, while others may opt for the complete package. Whichever you choose, our land management program ensures the daily care of your crops or gardens.
Creating world-class wines is our pride and specialty. Algodon's winemakers tend to our estate's 70 year old vines with an artistry unique to only the most skilled winemaking teams.
